There Are Two Types of Jurisdiction

What Is Jurisdiction in Muskogee? Hi, I’m Muskogee Attorney Eric L. Strocen and I have that answer. Now, the courts in Oklahoma, the district courts in Oklahoma, are courts of general jurisdiction, which means they have the power to hear most types of cases and controversies.
Now, there are two types of jurisdiction. There’s personal jurisdiction, meaning that the court has jurisdiction, the power, to hear a case relating to a certain person or entity.
And then there’s subject matter jurisdiction, meaning that the problem at hand can be heard by that type of court and they have the power to enforce any kind of judgment that relates to that matter.
This is important for you because these procedural guidelines are there to protect your constitutional rights and that of somebody that you may have a controversy.
And at times, there could be mistakes made and it’s important that if you are looking to sue or you’re finding yourself on the other side of action, that you understand these key components of what we call civil procedure in this profession.
