Your Credit Score Could Be Affected

What happens if I write a check with insufficient funds in my account? I am Muskogee Attorney Eric Strocen, with Wirth Law Offices, and I’m here to explain.
Now, things happen, and at times, this is something that’s done unintentionally by a lot of people, but under Oklahoma law, it is a crime and the district attorney’s office can file charges against you for writing a bogus check.
If you have the account, it is presumed that you are keeping track of it and are aware of how many funds are in there at any given time. The thing is, when you write a check, it’s a transaction. It’s, “I give you this check, you give me whatever good or service that we bargain for.”
The idea is that we want to protect the integrity of these transactions so that we can encourage more people to jump into them. So, the law can be a little harsh on this, but it’s a serious issue that can affect your credit, you could face fines, you could face jail time.
